2007 F lli Revello Barolo: 89
A Nebbiolo Dry Red Table wine from Barolo, Piedmont, Italy

Cost: $44

The 2007 Barolo is a very pretty wine at this level. Fresh, perfumed aromatics meld into dark red fruit, licorice, mint and spices. This mid-weight Barolo shows lovely depth and fine overall balance. Floral notes reappear on the finish, adding lift and freshness. The estate's Barolo is made from the lower portions of the family's holdings in Conca and Gattera. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2022. This is another strong set of new releases from the Revello brothers. The 2007s saw 4-5 days of maceration and fermentation and were aged in French oak, approximately 40-50% new for the single-vineyard wines and 15-20% for the straight Barolo. The Gattera was aged in a 15 hectoliter cask. A Marc de Grazia Selection, various American importers, including: De Grazia Imports; tel. (417) 732-4200; Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel. The 2007 Barolo Conca is a touch less aromatically compelling than the Giachini, but it makes up for that with a gorgeous, pure expression of generous, dense fruit. This south-facing vineyard is located in an amphitheater that traps heat, and that warmth comes through very nicely here, yet without being overdone. Round, silky tannins frame the exquisite finish. The 2007 Barolo Giachini is fabulous. Ripe, explosive aromatics make a positive first impression. The fireworks continue, with layers of exotic dark fruit, spices, menthol and new leather that continue to take shape in the glass. The finish is long, subtle and graced with endless inner perfume. This is one of the more well-ventilated sites Revello works with. The Revello brothers have done a fabulous job in capturing the essential beauty of this great La Morra vineyard. The Giachini is a beautiful and totally harmonious Barolo. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. This is another strong set of new releases from the Revello brothers. The 2007 Barolo Rocche dell-Annunziata is another of the highlights in this set of wines. Perfumed red cherries, licorice and sweet spices come together in a nuanced, finely detailed style that is the signature of this important La Morra vineyard. The rich, textured fruit shows marvelous persistence through to the finish. As is the case with so many estates, there is a certain flattening of the hierarchy among vineyards and the Rocche, though very, very fine, doesn't quite stand apart from the rest of the wines here to the degree it usually does. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. This is another strong set of new releases from the Revello brothers. The 2007 Barolo Gattera is nicely balanced although it is the most linear of the single-vineyard Baroli in this lineup. Crushed flowers, mint and ripe red fruit come together nicely on a midweight frame. The finish shows distinct elements of salinity that provide drive and focus. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027. 2006 F lli Revello Barolo Vigna Rocche del Annunziata: 95

Reviewer: Antonio Galloni
Maturity: Drink: 2016 - 2031
Current (Release) Cost: $100 (100)

The 2006 Barolo Rocche dell’Annunziata is a standout among this year’s crop of current releases. The tannins are exceptionally fine, as they so often are in wines from this important site. Soft, seamless and silky on the palate, the 2006 Rocche caresses the palate with endless layers of ripe, perfumed fruit. The virtually imperceptible, refined tannins make the 2006 Rocche enjoyable today, but it should also age very nicely. This is wonderful juice! Anticipated maturity: 2016-2031. Brothers Enzo and Carlo Revello have turned out a strong set of 2006 Barolos. Revello has dropped the percentage of new oak to 50% for their single-vineyard Barolos, with the exception of the Gattera, which is aged in a single 15-hectoliter barrel.
